Autumn is the perfect time of year to plan a vacation around the activity of leaf peeping. Travelers can enjoy the crisp fall air and gorgeous colors dotting the hillsides before spending the night on a real working farm or ranch.
Leaves change color in the fall due to the shorter days and cooler temperatures. The process of photosynthesis shuts down and the leaves' green hue turns to brown, red, or gold.
While it's easy to find any number of tours and vacation packages for the ogglers of autumn leaves, we like the idea of a quieter experience and a more personal connection with a farmer or rancher.
