A European-style bed and breakfast on a working organic farm. It overlooks a meadow where the market gardens are, and is a short walk over the hill to the Sierra foothills village of Fiddletown and its historic buildings, and is only three miles from the Shenandoah Valley and its wineries.
"The Casa" is not just a Bed and Breakfast, but also a small working CSA (community supported agriculture) farm that produces vegetables, herbs, apples, olives and eggs for subscribers and local farmers markets. This is an authentic farm stay. While the farmhouse is a new building constructed twenty-five years ago, the Kaiser family, your host, has been on the land for over 55 years.
Set in the peace and quiet of the country, you will hear nothing but frogs at night, and birds awakening you in the morning. It offers a wonderful escape from city life, a place to unwind and ground oneself in authentic country life-- and even learn a bit about organic gardening before you head out to a local winery- or continue on to the High Sierra.
Two upstairs bedrooms offer a relaxing haven. Each room has a queen-size bed, sitting area with comfortable chairs, and a library of books and magazines. There is a shared (European-style) bath. A tent platform under the oaks near the house offers camping. Breakfast is served in the farm kitchen or in the garden. Lunch or dinner are also available for an additional fee and must be arranged in advance.
Workshops can be arranged on planting seeds and seedlings, managing growth of crops, pruning, bread-making, jam-making, or cheese-making. Availability depends on season and weather.
