Summary
Keolamauloa is a historic property in Paauilo Mauka, on the Hamakua Coast of the Big Island. It is located at a cool elevation of 1800 feet, in an area surrounded by verdant pasturelands and old family homesteads… evidence of the community’s rich agricultural and cattle ranching history. Originally developed in the 1930’s as a coffee farm, the Lundburg/Tallett family of 3 generations share a working vision of sustainable living by producing wholesome food for both our family and the community, minimizing our environmental impact by using eco-friendly practices, and propagating native plants.
We currently raise and market native trees, as well as offer farm eggs and produce by neighborhood subscription. Native banana, koa, kukui, and ohia trees provide the shade for hapu ferns, taro, awa and noni. Sheep grazing on the hillside, chickens in movable coops, the family pet pig wallowing in the muddy bank of the pond, are the backyard view with the ocean beyond.
Sally and Keith are working artists and share a studio on the property while their daughter, Kia’i, enjoys the daily surprises of nature. Kaye finds joy and relaxation in gardening and working toward a sustainable future for her grandchildren. We have an apartment in the main house for a farm stay – as a vacation or short term rental.
Keolamauloa will welcome you home, whether you have traveled a few miles to Kalopa State Park, historic Honoka’a town or Waipio Valley, taken a day trip to Kohala, Kona, Hilo or the Volcano…or just enjoyed the quiet of the farm, a relaxing hot tub, and a walk in the Paauilo countryside. E Komo Mai! (Welcome!)
