Summary
Netherfield Natural Farm & Retreat is located 60 miles south of Kansas City near Fontana, Kansas. While the farm is very convenient to the Kansas City Metropolitan Area it is located in a very rural setting, on a hill with great views, and no visible neighbors.
The home is a completely restored 1882 Victorian farmhouse with a blend of historical features and modern conveniences. The property boasts 14 acres, a large fishing pond, two story barn with a finished loft space, corral, freestanding garage, henhouse, fire pits, picnic areas and walking trails. The house has 4 bedrooms, 4 full bathrooms, a large kitchen, dining room, parlor, wrap-around decks, and two balconies. The barn loft also has it's own balcony.
Currently the farm livestock consists of 2 steer, 40 chickens, 1 guinea fowl, 1 turkey, 1 livestock guardian dog (LGD), and 1 totally useless house dog. Our flock of birds are free ranging and are only confined overnight in the coop for safety (sometimes taking cover in the trees, but we try to encourage them to come inside).
Other towns nearby are Paola, Osawatomie, Hillsdale, Parker, Mound City, Pleasonton, Lynn Valley and LaCygne. They all have a rich history as well as opportunities for camping, hiking, water sports, horseback riding, golfing, shopping and just relaxing.
The goal of the farm is also to be, as much as possible, a self-sustaining place for vacationers who are looking for a temporary rural agrarian experience. Think "farm to table" but where the table is actually just a few steps away from the field.
Nearby area sights and fun things to do include: Kansas City Metropolitan area, many local museums including the John Brown Museum in Osawatomie, numerous lakes and reservoirs, town squares, and county fairs.
