Summary

Located in the middle of Mitchell County, North Carolina at an elevation averaging 2,600 feet, Laurel Oaks Farm is a beautiful, mainly wooded sheep farm bordering on the Toe River. There are numerous trails to explore and two ponds to sit by, relax, and fish. Sheep on the farm are guarded by a Great Pyrenees dog. Farm tours for guests and children can be arranged, as can spinning demonstrations for those interested. The quiet seclusion of Laurel Oaks makes for an ideal getaway location!

Lodging accommodations include your choice of two vacation rentals: the Laurel Oaks Chalet or the Laurel Oaks Log House. The Chalet is a secluded cabin with one bedroom and an upstairs sleeping loft plus a living room and stone fireplace with insert. Other amenities include dining and kitchen areas, a bath with tub/shower, and a wonderful sun deck. This cozy little sleeper accommodates up to four people. The Log House is a large, two-story house with tremendous views offering three bedrooms, two baths, a spacious living room with stone fireplace and insert, dining room and kitchen. The Log House provides the comforts of home in a vacation setting. The large covered porches with rocking chairs are a favorite. This luxurious lodging sleeps anywhere from five to seven people.

Laurel Oaks Farm is within an hour's drive of Mount Mitchell with its spectacular views, Linville Falls, Grandfather Mountain, The Roan, Beech and Wolf Laurel Ski Resorts, and Asheville.

Once you've settled in, you'll notice that Laurel Oaks provides a convenient base for exploring. Take a scenic cruise along the Blue Ridge Parkway. Try your hand at mineral or gem panning and tour a mine. Visit the area's many renowned crafts workshops and art studios, or The Penland School. You can play a round of golf or go whitewater rafting down the Toe/Nolichucky River. Nature lovers may enjoy the serene feeling of watching the innumerable species of birds and some other wildlife that call the surrounding area home.
