Summary
Our 1,200 acre estate, inclusive of a 27 acre lake, has been owned by the Dibrell family since the early 1900's. The lodge was built in the late 1800's as a homeplace and its early tenants enjoyed the fruits of the land both for sustenance and financial support. A true working farm, Oakhaven has seen its share of changes over the years too. Like any working farm, Oakhaven has had to change and modernize itself throughout the years to not only survive, but thrive!
The farm's main source of revenue through the 1950's was tobacco... there are still numerous tobacco barns located on the property that were used to hang and dry the tobacco leaves for market. Visitors to Oakhaven can still find tobacco being air dried the traditional way in some of these barns during the fall of the year and the pungeant aroma of freshly hung tobacco leaves is not to be missed.
In the late 1950's and early 1960's the farm began developing a dairy operation that quickly became its' main source of revenue. Evidence of the old dairy operation can still be seen along the main road where the old milking facility and silos nestle against a backdrop of rolling hills and forest. In 1971, a decision was made to take the knowledge and experience gained in raising dairy cows and shift that into a beef cattle operation that is still operating to date. Visitors to Oakhaven today can experience a working 150 head cow/calf operation.
Built in the late 1800's out of reclaimed tobacco barn timber, the Lodge at Oakhaven was restored in 2000 to its original appearance & beauty. The two-story 2,800 sqare foot lodge boasts four stone fireplaces (two gas & two wood burning) and two bedrooms with two baths. There are two covered porches for enjoying the expansive views of the surrounding property.
We offer horseback riding trails throughout the Oakhaven area, boating and fishing access to the stocked fishing ponds on the property. Oakhaven offers exclusive hunting opportunities including Wingshooting, Deer Hunting, and Spring Gobbler Hunting. We have hiking and mountain biking, wildlife viewing, photography, and golf packages.
