Summary

Armstrong Farms is an historically prominent 200-year-old family farm still operating a large purebred Black Angus cattle herd on 1000 acres. We are a designated Pennsylvania Century Farm, (presented by the Pa. Historical Museum Commission, the Govenor of Pa. and the Secretary of Agriculture) in continuous family ownership since its acquisition in 1816.  The Allens continue their farming heritage by managing one of the largest herds of purebred cattle in the northeastern US. This unspoiled acreage allows anyone an opportunity to experience relaxation, romance, and to learn about the present farming operation through observation and hands on farming chores.

The farm is located only 45 minutes from downtown Pittsburgh, in southeast Butler County 2 1/2 miles from the National Historic District of Saxonburgand offers award winning accommodations.  Nestled in one of the last remaining pieces of the regional pie that is still rural, we have a perfect setting for special over-night stays, corporate retreats, outdoor recreation and the most perfect wedding anyone's imagination can create.

We offer accommodations in 8 different venues.  We have the Andrew Room in the Main 1816 Farm House and Drake's Guesthouse, also located at the Main Farm.  Westminster Preserve serves two locations: The Bonnie House and The Love Cottage.  The Alyson Anne Cottage is located at our Alyson Anne Farm.   The Fieldstone House is conveniently located next to the Fieldstone barn.  Two suites (Higgenbothem Town Aire and The Kristan Alyssa), located in the Historic Saxonburg District, accommodate guests seeking both small town atmosphere and the farm setting at Armstrong.  Finally, the Greenspace Cabin offers a primitive overnight camping retreat.

Here "GREEN" is not a novel catch phrase, but rather a way of life that began in our family almost 200 years ago.  It is our mission to share with others this beautiful and relaxing way of country life.

The Andrew Room - guest room in main farm house.

Special Instructions: The Andrew Room is decorated with charming antiques acquired over many years. The queen-size bed and matching dresser is made of solid mahogany with brass inlay. The original fireplace and wall of handmade brick add to the feeling of stepping back into history while keeping all modern comforts. The private full bath is located directly outside the room.

The Bonnie House at Westminster Preserve

Special Instructions: This is the main house located at Westminster Preserve and can accommodate up to 12 people. There are four bedrooms and three full baths.The common areas include a large equipped kitchen, dining room with table that seats 12 and living room.

The Love Cottage at Westminster Preserve

Capacity: 4

Special Instructions: The farm is now a Pennsylvania Century Farm and the family linage continues with the sixth and seventh generations living at the farms. The cottage is located at our Westminster Preserve Farm. The three-room house, tastefully decorated with antiques, includes a bedroom with a queen-size hand-made Amish poster bed. The living room has a double futon and a desk work space. A bath with shower is directly off the bedroom.

Alyson Anne Cottage at Alyson Anne Farm Campus

Special Instructions: The English-style cottage has three bedrooms and a sleeping loft. The master bedroom has an in-room bath and queen size bed. The second bedroom has a double bed and the third bedroom and two single beds. The loft area has two queen size beds. There are two full baths and a combined dining and living room area. The equipped kitchen allows a small group or family to enjoy the comforts of home cooking and intimate dining.

The Higgenbothem Aerie Suite in Saxonburg

Special Instructions: The suite includes a bedroom with a queen size bed and a queen pull-out sleeper sofa, a full kitchen, a full shower bath and combined dining and living room with private outside deck. Other amenities include air conditioning, wireless internet and cable TV. The bedroom has a spacious cathedral ceiling with twin skylights. A full breakfast is served at the farm overlooking the pond.

The Kristan Alyssa Suite in Saxonburg

Special Instructions: This suite is ideal for two couples or a small family. The suite includes two bedrooms, one with a queen size bed and the other with a double bed. There is full tub/shower bathroom. This suite is spacious with a full equipped kitchen, a kitchen bar, small dining table and living room area with cable TV, AC, wireless internet services and a small private outside deck. A small washer and dryer is also included.

The Greenspace Cabin

Capacity: 4

Special Instructions: The cabin consists of an enclosed first floor with a pot belly stove and a double futon, a sleeping loft with double futon, a covered front porch with Adirondack chairs, a stone fire pit to test your camping and culinary arts skills and a picnic table for your outdoor dining pleasure. There is no electricity or running water but there is an old time hand-pump and a quaint upscale outhouse.

Drake's Guest House

Capacity: 4

Special Instructions: This house is located directly behind the Main Farmhouse and includes a queen-size brass bed and, in the next room, a queen-size sleeper sofa. High cathedral ceilings serve as a background for the 100-year-old Pennsylvania fieldstone fireplace. The house has a full bath with shower and a small kitchen, with refrigerator, sink, microwave and coffee maker. Additional amenities provided are television, DSL internet access, air conditioning and a work area.
