Summary

Spring Hills farm has been part of the working landscape of northeastern Pennsylvania for well over a century. Since 1945 it has been home to the Hull family who, for three generations have cared for its open, rolling hills and its hardwood forest punctuated by meandering stone walls.

The Hulls raised sheep on the farm in the early years, and more recently have devoted most of the open land to Christmas trees. Under the management of Margaret Hull, Spring Hills has been certified as an organic farm. No chemical pesticides or fertilizers have been used on the farm for more than 20 years. Through the Nature Conservancy and agricultural easement programs, more than 200 acres of the farm have been reserved as permanent agricultural and forest land.

The farm has become home for many species of wildlife and birds.  In order to ensure the sustainability of this special place, we are opening up the grounds and facilities to accommodate environmental education programs, special events and artists' workshops.

Life at Spring Hills farm has focused at the Pond House since the family built it in 1957. The original structure is made entirely of fieldstone from the farm. Families and groups stay in this house as well as the adjacent Bunk House.

In warm weather the lawns provide plenty of shaded corners for casual conversation, and an outdoor fireplace for evening gatherings. There is a big spring-fed pond with a float for swimmers. Spring Hills Farm, in keeping with our goal of environmental sustainability, has put a beautiful team of draft horses to work and they are ready to take you on spectacular tour of the farm in a horse drawn carriage or sleigh.
