Summary
Kilburnie is set across Craig House on historic Craig Farm located 3 miles north of Lancaster, SC. The fields and woods surrounding historic Craig House are all part of pre-Civil War Craig Farm, which included more than a thousand acres of the area between Highways 200 and 521 from Montgomery Lane to several miles north of Cane Creek. Craig Farm today consists of close to 400 acres and is operated as a cattle farm.
Kilburnie (named in 1834 after Kilbirnie Castle, Parish of Kilbirnie, Scotland) was built circa 1827 and is Lancaster's oldest surviving residence now transformed into a welcoming and luxurious Bed and Breakfast Inn.
Kilburnie's beauty is transformed each season making it a popular place to visit anytime of the year. There are always plenty of interesting things to do while staying at Kilburnie. Of course, one does not have to do anything. Just relaxing in one of the comfortable rocking chairs on one of the piazzas will make one forget the real world for a while. Snuggling up with a great book in either the parlor or the privacy of a guestroom will do the same. Just being in and around the Inn brings a sense of peace and comfort.
Kilburnie is surrounded by open fields and woodland. The unspoiled woods can be explored by walking the meandering nature trails among a wide variety of native flora and fauna. The backyard is a certified wildlife habitat. Wooden bridges span the natural branches, which flow during the rainy season. From Kilburnie, guests can walk two different routes to historic Craig House. There are several festivals and special events in the area throughout the year.
