Summary
This wonderful pioneer farmstead is nestled in the hills just outside Fredericksburg, along the flowing waters of Palo Alto Creek. Palo Alto Creek Farm retains all of its original buildings, providing a visual timeline from the log cabin built in 1854 when this farmstead was first settled by German immigrants Peter and Christine Itz and their 6 children. Their oldest son Karl married in 1856. He and his bride later raised their family of 9 children in the log cabin here on the family farmstead. Later the family built the two story limestone house in 1875 and the limestone barn in 1880. The farm remained in the Itz family for more than 100 years, providing a home for 5 generations of the family. Palo Alto Creek Farm continues to offer the hospitality of a time gone by.
While staying at Palo Alto Creek Farm, enjoy the abundant wildlife. Early in the morning, wild turkey have been known to meander up the creek, and there is a never-ending display of bird activity and song. Guests especially enjoy sitting in the swing under an 800-year-old Live Oak to watch the deer that come in each evening. Guests are free to roam the acreage, and the surrounding country roads are ideal for walking, running, hiking, or biking. If you want a real soul-expanding experience, go outside at night and look up! The stars are incredible.
A few donkeys, a small herd of Boer goats, and some registered Texas Longhorns make their home on the farm. They all love treats and petting. The farm also provides a home for several outdoor cats, some of whom serve as a friendly welcoming committee.
We have four guest houses for you to choose from. The 1875 two-story limestone house with large rooms and high ceilings will comfortably accommodate a party of up to six people. We call this house The Itz House. The other historic accommodations on this property, The Barn, The Log Cabin, and The Hideaway, each of which will accommodate two people, make this the perfect location for group getaways. Plenty of room to gather and to scatter. Soak in your own private bath, warm your toes by the fireplace or just relax on your porch. Every house is its own private refuge. You will sense this farm's history as a place where fun, family and friends have been welcomed for more than a century.
Come enjoy the peace and tranquility of the Texas Hill Country at Palo Alto Creek Farm. After enjoying the creek and interacting with the livestock, pamper yourself with one of our spa packages in the private spa rooms reserved exclusively for the use of guests of the farm. You will be rejuvenated by this peaceful country experience, while still being just minutes away from all of the activities, shopping, and restaurants in historic Fredericksburg and the numerous wineries in the area. Palo Alto Creek Farm has everything to make your stay the ultimate getaway.
