Summary
Our farm, located on 80 acres within sight of the Blue Ridge Parkway, is woodland and pasture, with 5 acres of vineyards. The farmhouse was built in 1926 from timber hewn off the property. Several additions over the years have resulted in a spacious, comfortable home. The gardens are an on-going labor of love, which will probably never be completed as long as there is still ground available to plant.
During its long history the farm has been, among other things, an apple orchard and a tomato plantation. When we moved here in 1987, the farm was lying fallow. Wanting to return it to productive use, we planted the first vines in 1995. Gradually expanding the vineyards each year, we opened Fincastle Vineyard and Winery in 2003.
