Summary
500 hundred acres in the Appalachian Mountains, a visit to the Farm will take you on a memorable journey filled with great outdoor recreation, exciting natural resources, a unique cultural experience, and nights so clear you can distinctly see the milky way. The house was built in the early 1800s (1801 by some accounts). Those logs are made of American chestnut, a tree which doesn't exist much any more because of a blight.
There is fun for ALL AGES! Owned by the Wittkamper family for decades, Pyne Mountain Farm has been a sanctuary for wildlife and a quiet place, until now... We recently opened our doors as a vacation rental, retreat center, and bed and breakfast. We're also an ideal site for weddings.
Historically, the farm has been used for cow pasture, rearing horses, growing hay and even growing tobacco. During the past twenty years there has been minimal human presence and the wildlife has flourished. We are home to white-tailed deer, appalachian cottontails, long-tailed weasels, bobcats, black bears, red-tailed hawks and more, including 40+ species of trees, 30+ species of mammals, and 60+ species of birds among others.
