Summary
The Padlock Ranch was established by Homer and Mildred Scott in 1943 with 3000 acres and 300 cows. Today, headquartered out of Dayton, Wyoming (just north of Sheridan), we raise over 11,000 calves a year on nearly 500,000 acres across Wyoming and Montana. To us the Padlock Ranch is a small piece of Paradise we wish to share with those who want to experience our working ranch vacations. We enjoy introducing our unique way of life here with folks who share our passion for Wyoming and Montana and our western lifestyle.

Since 1996 we have range calved our first calf heifers rather than use calving sheds. The heifers are bred to small frame bulls and are bred to calve the first week of April. Late calving allows the ranch to match the cow’s nutritional needs with the onset of the growing season. We believe that range calving produces better mothers.
Our guests are those who foremost enjoy and have an appreciation for the western cowboy way of life. They are outgoing, adventurous, and seek opportunities to rise and meet most challenges presented to them. Padlock Ranch guests are not afraid of long, rigorous hours in the saddle, working cattle and participating in other ranch activities. At the same time they take pleasure in times of rest and relaxation, whether this is found around an evening campfire, on a leisurely trail ride, a hike, a sight seeing trip, or in the comfort of their dwelling. They are excited to learn how we are winning the west on this authentic Wyoming cattle ranch!
